Meet the Guru: LA Montes, Event Sales Executive at Discovery Coron

In Beach Weddings, Destination Wedding Planners, Planning & Tips by Ande Tongco

Lady Ann Montes – LA to everyone who works with her – came to weddings through catering, and has never looked back. As Event Sales Executive at Discovery Coron in the Philippines, she has spent years helping couples celebrate on one of the country’s most strikingly beautiful private islands; a place where pristine nature, genuine exclusivity and first-class service all come together in one remarkable setting. We asked her everything.

The Venue

What are the main reasons couples choose Discovery Coron for their destination wedding?

The combination of first-class luxury at a genuinely accessible price point, set within the exclusivity of a private island surrounded by pristine nature. It’s a rare thing to find both in one place – and Coron’s extraordinary natural beauty does the rest.

Where’s your favourite spot at the resort for a stunning wedding photo?

Eagle’s Point. The panoramic views from there are breathtaking – the kind of backdrop that makes every frame look considered, even when it isn’t.

What’s the most Instagrammable spot at the resort?

The sunset beach, without question. That golden-hour light on untouched shoreline is the image most people associate with Coron – and it earns that reputation every single evening.

What’s the best room for the wedding night and why?

The Sunset Villas – private, beachfront, with those sunset views right outside. For a first night as newlyweds, the setting is hard to argue with.

What’s the one thing couples get at Discovery Coron that they won’t find anywhere else?

A private island experience that manages to feel both exclusive and completely flexible – couples can celebrate freely, on their own terms, surrounded by some of the most unspoiled natural beauty in the Philippines.

What are some of the chef’s specialities for a wedding menu?

Curated Filipino cuisine is at the heart of it, alongside a Mushroom Veloüté and fresh seafood dishes that make the most of what the surrounding waters provide.

What’s the most glamorous experience a couple can enjoy at the resort?

A full island celebration tailored entirely to their preferences – every detail, every moment, shaped around them. On a private island, that kind of personalisation isn’t just possible; it’s the point.

The Planner’s Insights

What’s the biggest misconception couples have about planning a destination wedding in Coron?

real-wedding-ricco-and-jessica-at-discovery-coron-philippines

That it will be complicated. With the right team alongside you, the process becomes smooth and genuinely enjoyable – and the team at Discovery Coron has handled enough weddings to make that feel effortless.

What’s the strangest wedding request you’ve ever had – and did you deliver?

The mother of the bride requested a chapel ceremony 15 minutes before the beachfront ceremony, as she preferred a Catholic officiant rather than a pastor. The beachfront ceremony proceeded as planned; however, she later insisted that we and the wedding coordinators arrange for a Catholic priest. We were able to secure one, who arrived at the resort at 8:00 PM, and the Catholic ceremony was subsequently held in the chapel at 9:00 PM.

What do wedding couples almost always forget?

Their own medicine. It sounds practical rather than romantic – but Coron is an island destination, and being caught without something essential is a genuine inconvenience. LA reminds every couple before they travel.

What’s your best piece of advice for couples planning their destination wedding?

Trust your team and enjoy the process. The planning journey should feel as memorable as the day itself – and at a destination like this, it genuinely can.

What’s the most memorable thing a couple has ever said to you after their wedding day?

That their wedding exceeded every expectation and felt like a dream come true. LA hears some version of this often – which perhaps says as much about the setting as it does about the planning.

About LA

LA’s background is in catering – and it was there that she found her real passion: creating meaningful celebrations and connecting with people through the events that matter most to them. Several years and countless weddings into her time at Discovery Coron, that enthusiasm is still very much intact.

If your best friend called you tomorrow and said she was thinking about a destination wedding, what’s the one piece of advice you’d give her that she won’t find on any website?

Embrace the journey and focus on the experience rather than perfection. The imperfect moments, as often as not, are the ones you’ll laugh about longest.

LA’s Insider Tip for Coron

Get on a boat and explore the surrounding islands. Coron is extraordinary in itself – but the waters around it are among the most spectacular in the Philippines, and the islands within reach are the kind of discovery that guests talk about for years. Build it into the itinerary; don’t leave it as an afterthought.
