Planning the perfect honeymoon?
Congratulations! Now that you’ve trawled Pinterest for bouquets, shortlisted your favourite wedding locations, and narrowed down your guest list (good luck with that), it’s time for the super fun part. Your honeymoon! It’s the best excuse you’ll ever have to plan the romantic trip of a lifetime.
While you may have a destination in mind — or are planning to extend your destination wedding to include the honeymoon — don’t leave this important decision to the last minute. A significant slice of your budget will be labelled ‘honeymoon’ and you’re more likely to nab your dream holiday at the right time and price if you keep it on the priority list. So start spinning that globe early. And don’t forget, Googling sun-soaked beaches make a nice break from battling over seating plans.
As well as an amazing start to married life and something to treasure when you head back to the daily grind, your choice of honeymoon should be a reflection of you both. Take the time to talk with your partner about what sort of experience you’ll honestly cherish most. Are you a fly-and-flop kind of couple, looking to spend languid days sipping cocktails around a glamorous resort pool? Or cruise bunnies, happy to unpack once as others worry about transporting you from one exotic locale to another? Are you culture vultures who can’t wait to see the classics? Or architecture-mad sweethearts set on a European sojourn?
On a practical level, be sure to discuss logistics. If you don’t have many of those precious vacation days to spare, or if you’ve already allocated most to a destination wedding, consider travel time carefully. A long-haul flight could be the key to your ideal escape, or just extra dollars and stress.
A final tip — try to plan your wedding and honeymoon outside of peak seasons. Not only will you avoid the crowd crush (after all, who wants to share a beach with every other honeymooner in the world), you’ll give yourselves the best chance of scoring a price break or a fabulous deal packed with extras.
