A medieval castle in Slovenia set the perfect scene for this couple’s happily ever after. Talk about a fairytale setting! Slovenia, a land of old-world castles, cobblestone alleys and manicured gardens, proved the most enchanting destination for Monique and Justin’s destination wedding. The couple, who met online, are seasoned travellers. Inspired by their many adventures together, they decided to set their sights on somewhere totally unique when it came time to plan their wedding. “We thought, ‘What better way to celebrate our lives together than to get married overseas?” remembers Monique. With family ties in Slovenia, it made sense to hold their celebration in the Central European country, gathering 31 of their loved ones for a magnificent celebration at medieval castle-turned-luxury hotel Relais & Châteaux Hotel Grad Otočec. “It was wonderful bringing people together from around the world to celebrate our love,” Monique shares. Their heartfelt ceremony was held in the venue’s lakeside gardens. “Having the man I love pour his heart out to me during our vows was very special,” says Monique. “Everything was so emotional and beautiful!”
With the formalities out of the way, Monique and Justin joined friends and family for post-ceremony treats and a very special Champagne toast. “Justin actually tried his hand at a traditional sword Champagne bottle opening,” reveals Monique. Don’t worry, folks – everything went to plan. “He owned it!” Monique laughs. Getting away for photos in Relais & Châteaux Hotel Grad Otočec’s gardens, the newlyweds enjoyed some ‘just the two of us’ time before clinking glasses and feasting with their guests in the venue’s candlelit restaurant. Sharing a super-sweet first dance and slipping away once again for sunset photos, the couple finished the fairytale with a crowd-pleasing wedding cake and live music. “We all felt like we were on one big holiday together, living our best lives!”
