Why did you select that destination and venue?
We sought elegance in a relaxed location for an intimate gathering of our nearest and dearest, without the fuss of having hundreds of guests we may never talk to again. We chose Fiji as it wasn’t too far for our Australian and New Zealand guests to travel to, while still being a holiday. Fijians are known to be the happiest people in the world, and they sure made our day the happiest of our lives.

Did you have guests attend and, if so, what was their reaction to a destination wedding?
We had 25 guests attend. We distributed “save the date” invitations one year in advance so people could save up for the holiday. For some guests it was their first time overseas, and for others their first time to Fiji – including for my husband and I.

What is your favourite memory of the day?
The exchanging of vows. Also, I have a step-daughter who lives with my husband and I, so we are very close. I surprised her and everybody else including my husband by reading a poem I wrote for her and presenting her with a gift at the reception.

What was the best thing about having a destination wedding?
We all had a holiday too! We arrived in Fiji one week before the wedding and so did a lot of our guests, which meant we were able to spend time with them.

What theme or style did you base your wedding decorations on?
I call it casual elegance. Our colour theme was royal blue and white.

How did your wedding coordinator assist you?
My wedding coordinator, Luse Tawake helped me out with every little thing I needed.

Did you honeymoon in the same location?
No, we honeymooned in Hawaii for seven nights.
