This couple from Australia celebrated their love in a relaxed, coastal-chic wedding on the 26th February 2016 at the Shangri-La Boracay Resort and Spa.The ceremony, held in Alon Garden, joined the pair in front of loved ones before they partied the night away in one the resort’s glamorous ballrooms.

“Christian is from Germany and I’m from Australia, so we wanted to find a place to marry somewhere in between. My background is Filipino, and as Christian had always wanted to visit the Philippines, it was an easy choice for us. We had more than 60 guests who travelled from 12 different countries, and everyone was very excited to be holidaying in the Philippines.”

Why the Shangri-La’s Boracay Resort and Spa
“We loved the beach and being surrounded by green trees – the entire resort is just picture-perfect. The resort’s many facilities such as the pool and games room, and plenty of water activities, made it easy for us to hang out with our guests without the hassle of trying to meet at different locations.”

Quirky Celebrations/Rituals
“Our German friends performed a Filipino tradition that included placing my veil and a chord over us during the ceremony. The veil symbolised the joining of two individuals to become one, and the chord represented being bound together as a promise to be faithful to one another.”

The Music/Entertainment
“We had a DJ for the night who played easy listening during dinner and fun dance beats afterwards. The fire dancers that were included as part of the resort package were a huge hit.”

The Menu
“We chose to have a buffet and open bar. Favourite dishes were the roast pork (Lechon), the seafood – especially the grilled prawns, and the yummy chocolate mousse cake.”

Guests Loved
“Many guests described feeling like they had their own private waiter throughout dinner. It was really nice to know our guests were well taken care of.”

Best Photo Location
“Our favourite spot was at the dock where the speed boats arrive at the resort, as it was perfect for sunset shots.”

The Accommodation
“The resort offered pure luxury without being ‘stuffy’. We stayed in the Tree House Villa at the top of the resort, which had the best view.”

Superior Service
“We planned an afternoon reception on the beach but it started to rain so our event coordinator, Mara moved everything into the ballroom. We didn’t have to worry about a thing or lift a finger, and instead got to spend time as a couple before the reception, drinking cocktails with our guests . When we entered the ballroom, we were so grateful and impressed as it looked amazing. And, the best part about moving the reception indoors was being able to extend the party for a couple more hours.”

Something to Remember

“The day goes by too quickly to worry about anything. If you pick a venue that’s experienced in weddings they’ll provide everything you need. And if there’s a small detail you’ve forgotten, chances are they’ve already taken care of it.”

Advice for Brides
“Don’t leave home without… the wedding dress. We almost forgot it!”  Shangri-la's boracay resort
