White-sand shores, glassy waters and a tranquil reef made Daydream Island the perfect stage for David and Chelsea’s heartfelt “I do.”
Their story began in the simplest of places — the gym. Chelsea first crossed paths with David while tagging along with her brother, Josh, who was meeting up with friends, including David and his siblings, Naomi and Jordan. “I didn’t really speak with him,” Chelsea says. But destiny stepped in again one late night at her parents’ house, where Josh and his friends were playing pool. Chelsea and David ended up paired in a game. “That’s when we actually had a chance to connect, and the rest was history.”
A year later, David was ready with a surprise that would mark the start of their forever. While celebrating their anniversary in Byron Bay, he suggested they visit the lighthouse at sunset. “While we were taking in the view, he pointed and said, ‘Look, there’s a whale!'” recalls Chelsea. “I turned to look, and when I turned back, he was down on one knee. He proposed with the beautiful ocean behind us—it was such a magical and unforgettable moment.”

Faith was woven beautifully into the day. Chelsea walked down the aisle to “Goodness of God” by Bethel Music and Jenn Johnson, while David made his entrance to “Highlands (Song of Ascent)” by Hillsong United and Benjamin William Hastings. “All our ceremony music was worship-focused, which made it feel so special.”
The ceremony décor was a true family effort. Chelsea sourced real-to-touch flowers from Brisbane, which David’s brother Abriam and his partner Talisha transported all the way to the Whitsundays. “The morning of the wedding, David, the groomsmen and some friends decorated the chapel with the flowers. They put flower petals everywhere and tied flowers to the pews,” Chelsea says.

One of the day’s sweetest stories came courtesy of their wedding cake. “We both absolutely love pavlova, so we knew from the beginning that we wanted a big one to celebrate with,” says Chelsea. But with the challenges of transporting a delicate dessert by ferry, it seemed almost impossible. Then their coordinator Pia worked some magic with the island’s chef. “On the day, the chef went even further — he brought out the most beautiful big pavlova wedding cake, completely dairy-free, and better than we could have imagined. It was honestly the best pavlova we’ve ever had, and we still talk about it a year later.”

Though they haven’t yet taken an official honeymoon, David and Chelsea dream of returning to Daydream Island for their second anniversary. “One thing we do regret is not staying longer after the wedding,” Chelsea admits. “We were only on Daydream Island for two nights. We had originally planned to return for our one-year anniversary, but life had other beautiful plans — we welcomed our baby girl instead.”
Chelsea’s advice for couples considering a destination wedding? “Go for it! There are so many amazing packages available that make planning easier and surprisingly affordable. For us, it ended up being a similar cost — if not cheaper — than having a local wedding in Brisbane. Plus, there’s something so special about being away with your loved ones. It feels more intimate, more relaxed, and turns into a celebration that lasts more than just one day. You’ll always have a beautiful place to return to and relive those memories.”
The couple can’t praise the Daydream Island staff enough. “From the moment we arrived, they went above and beyond to make our wedding experience unforgettable,” Chelsea says. “Our room was upgraded to the best on the island, which was such an amazing surprise. Pia took wonderful care of us — she even collected palms and flowers to decorate our table when we hadn’t planned any. Mattieu was incredible, keeping our guests’ drinks full and even keeping the reception open longer so we could keep celebrating. We truly felt so looked after and supported the entire time.”
