Legalities

If you want to get married in Sri Lanka you must present your passport and birth certificate to the Divisional/District Registrar in the area where the wedding will take place. You must also be in Sri Lanka at least four days before the date of giving notice so that the registration can take place. Once married, your marriage certificate must be certified by the Consular Affairs department of the Ministry of External Affairs of Colombo.

Weather

Sri Lanka boasts a tropical climate and a number of monsoon seasons that affect different areas of the island at different times throughout the year, so be sure to check weather maps and keep an eye on the area where you have planned your wedding. According to Sri Lanka Travel:

  • First inter-monsoon season runs from March to April
  • Southwest monsoon season runs from May to September
  • Second inter-monsoon season runs from October to November
  • Northeast monsoon season runs from December to February

Currency

The Sri Lankan Rupee (LKR) is the official currency of Sri Lanka.
