Why did you select that destination and venue?
It was where we took our first holiday together six years ago. We saw a wedding taking place on the oceanfront lawn, which had the most breathtaking backdrop looking over the crystal clear water of the Whitsunday Islands and we both said how amazing it would be to get married there one day.
Did you have guests attend and, if so, what was their reaction to a destination wedding?
Yes, we had 90 guests fly up to Airlie Beach from all around Australia and Canada. Most of their reactions were the same – “Who wouldn’t want to attend a wedding in a tropical paradise and enjoy the added bonus of a mini holiday as well?!”
What is your favourite memory of the day?
I have so many standout memories of the day but my favourite memory is of midway through the reception when I took two minutes out from a dance battle taking place on the dance floor to stand at the back of the room. As I glanced around the beautifully presented room, I couldn’t help but notice the smiles, happiness and energy that filled the room. That moment to me was priceless and I will always hold it very close to my heart.
What was the best thing about having a destination wedding?
The best thing about having a destination wedding was having all of our closest friends and family on holidays in the same place at the same time!
What theme or style did you base your wedding decorations on?
We went with a black and white damask and coral theme and being that I’m a bit of a perfectionist, everything tied in really well.
How did your wedding coordinator assist you?
Our wedding coordinator Lauren, was amazing! She was extremely helpful and thorough leading up to our big day and was only ever a phone call or email away.
Did you honeymoon in the same location?
We spent a week in Airlie Beach including a few days prior to the wedding and a few days after, before heading off to Bali for two weeks.
