Real Life Wedding: Rebecca & Todd – The Coromandel

Rebecca Speedy & Todd Bell wed on 9 February 2013 at the Cornish Pumphouse in Waihi, followed by a reception at the Rob Roy Hotel in The Coromandel region of New Zealand.

Why did you choose a destination wedding?

We always knew our wedding would be at a location close to home as we’re both very sentimental and have strong ties to the area.

Why did you select the destination and venue you did?

Rob Roy Hotel fitted in perfectly with the style of wedding we wanted. The reception room looked exactly how I imagined it would.

Did you have guests attend and, if so, what was their reaction to a destination wedding?

We had 70 guests attend; they loved the location as it’s central to where many of them live.

What is your favourite memory of the day?

When I walked up the aisle to ‘Amazing Grace’ playing on the bagpipes. It is one of my mum’s favourite songs and it still gives me chills thinking about it.

What was the best thing about having a destination wedding?

That it’s far away enough that we don’t go there every day, but close enough to visit and relive our special day.

What theme or style did you base your wedding decorations on?

The closest would be ‘vintage’. We had three bunches of white hydrangeas in preserving jars tied with white ribbon on each banquet table.

How did your wedding coordinator assist you?

We didn’t have one, it was all me – with a little help from friends and family of course.

Did you honeymoon in the same location?

No, we didn’t honeymoon as such; we took a week off after the wedding and renovated our lounge room instead!
