Real Life Wedding: Kirsty & Blair – Bali

Kirsty and Blair Stevenson tied-the-knot at Bali's exclusive Nusa Dua Beach Hotel and Spa on 1 May 2015.

Kirsty & Blair wanted a small, intimate and casual wedding where all of the guests would be relaxed and comfortable. We think it worked perfectly at Nusa Dua Beach Hotel and Spa, with elegant styling that set the tone for a fun and relaxed celebration.

Why did you choose a destination wedding?

We wanted a small wedding with our closest friends and family, and a destination wedding was one way to achieve that. Plus, all our guests could also enjoy a holiday of their own, while celebrating our special occasion.

Why did you decide on the venue?

We have been visiting Bali – especially Nusa Dua Beach Hotel and Spa – for quite a few years, so the hotel and area are special to us. We really couldn’t imagine having it anywhere other than picture-perfect Nusa Dua.

Did you have any pre-ceremony entertainment or activities?

The great thing about having a destination wedding is that you get to spend lots of time with your guests at the hotel before the ceremony. So we considered dinner and drinks by the pool bar our pre-ceremony activities.

What theme or style did you base your wedding on?

The theme could be described as ‘beach chic’. We love frangipanis, so they were prevalent in our decorations. We were certainly in the right area for it as Bali has so many beautiful frangipani trees.

Tell us about your reception.

We had a very casual wedding reception as we didn’t want our guests to be too hot or uncomfortable. Our food was a combination of sit-down and buffet style – and the BBQ buffet mains were some of the best dishes we’ve eaten. We also had a DJ to entertain guests on the dance floor.

What was your wedding highlight?

Seeing the ceremony set-up complete. It was amazing! It looked like something you’d see in a movie but it was real and it was for us. We couldn’t have asked for a more perfect wedding.

Where did you honeymoon?

We had a ‘mini-moon’, staying in Bali for another week. Our real honeymoon will be to Europe.

Any advice for couples planning a similar wedding?

Definitely plan to meet with the wedding coordinator in person, especially if there are language barriers. If you have an excellent wedding coordinator like we did, you won’t have any issues.
