“Lucas was new to Dubai and celebrating his first birthday in the city,” says Caitline. “A mutual friend invited me to brunch, supposedly just to hang out and watch football. What he didn’t mention was that we’d be walking straight into Lucas’s birthday party.”
Two slightly overdressed guests arrived unaware they’d gatecrashed a milestone. “It was pretty awkward,” laughs Caitline. “But Lucas was a great sport. I wished him a quick ‘Happy Birthday!’ and he answered the only way a proper Dubai brunch birthday boy would: ‘Come on, let’s do more tequila shots!’ And that’s how it all started.”
From that unexpected brunch, Caitline, who moved to Dubai to work for an airline, and Lucas’s friendship quickly turned into something deeper as they discovered shared passions for travel, food, and making new memories in Dubai.
Lucas proposed in a way that blended stealth and romance. “I’d just come off a long, exhausting night flight,” Caitline recalls. “All I wanted was a nap and a coffee the size of my head, but Lucas picked me up, took me for a massage and then out to dinner.”
While they were out, Lucas’s plans were unfolding at home. “When we returned, our apartment had been transformed with flowers, balloons, candles—the whole works. It felt like a scene from a movie. And then he proposed. Let’s just say the exhaustion disappeared real quick.”

Personal touches were woven throughout. “We wanted our guests to have a true Filipino welcome,” says Caitline. “So at the pre-wedding dinner, we hosted a traditional boodle fight—a communal feast laid out on banana leaves, symbolising unity and togetherness. We also played classic Filipino games and wore traditional Barong Tagalog and Filipiniana attire. It was such a fun, meaningful evening that bonded everyone before the big day.”
“It was less about perfection, more about connection,” Caitline shares. “Think barefoot elegance, sunset vows, and gentle music.”
Planning wasn’t without challenges. Shortly after Lucas’s proposal, Caitline discovered she was pregnant. “Throughout the entire wedding planning process, I was pregnant—and that definitely shaped how I approached everything,” she says. Determined to complete major planning before giving birth, Caitline juggled fittings, bridal shoots, and preparations while adjusting to new motherhood. “By the wedding, our daughter was seven months old. Having her there with us was incredibly special—and watching her walk down the aisle as our flower girl was unforgettable.”
Of course, island weddings bring logistical hurdles. “A week before the wedding, the forecast predicted rain. But we decided early to embrace whatever weather came—and the skies stayed clear,” they recall. “The breeze was gentle, the light was perfect, and it truly felt like the most beautiful day to get married.”

Their advice for other couples thinking about a destination wedding in the Philippines? “Embrace the natural beauty and laid-back charm of the Philippines,” they say. “Plan ahead, work with local vendors, and choose a setting that reflects your story. Be flexible and present—the magic lies in the memories you create together.”
