Family holidays inspired this glorious seaside wedding on the Spanish island of Lanzarote.

Brimming with love, laughs, and beautiful backdrops, this destination celebration was perfectly on brief for Irish couple Megan and Evan. They chose the scenery and sunshine of a favourite destination, the island of Lanzarote, to wed alongside their four children and 40 friends and family. Located off the south coast of Spain and part of the Canary Islands, Lanzarote is already full of fond memories.

“We go here twice a year for our family holiday,” says Megan. “In 2022 we met with a wedding planner and fell in love with the H10 Rubicón Palace hotel and its surrounding scenery. So many beautiful areas for photos!” The couple also chose a sentimental date for ‘I do’: their ninth anniversary. “Less dates for my husband to remember” quips the bride.Spain-mediterranean-wedding-Megan-and-Evan (28)

While planning from Ireland wasn’t always easy, especially not being able to see the extras they booked in person, the couple put their trust in planner Hayley from Canarian Dream Wedding and Event Planners. Megan did make one important decision in real life though: her exquisite gown from Spanish brand Jesus Peiro. While the designer might be a nod to their location, the gown was sourced locally from The White Room in Mullingar, Ireland.

And the day’s lucky charm? A sophisticated shade of blue that set the tone for the wedding party and perfectly aligned with the waterfront locale.Spain-mediterranean-wedding-Megan-and-Evan (31)

After sharing some picture-perfect moments with their nearest and dearest, the couple came together for a joyful ‘I do’ and a breathtaking photocall around the hotel with Brontë Photography. Capping off the day was a delicious barbeque reception feast, served on the hotel balcony so guests could gaze out across the water and catch a sea breeze as they raised a celebratory toast.

Being such a close-knit family, Megan and Evan wanted their kids deeply involved in every part of the wedding, from morning-of preparations to all the dance-floor fun. This deep connection radiated throughout the event, with guests calling it “a day of love”.  Most precious memory? “I had our first-dance song (What’s Up by DJ Miko) remixed to a faster version halfway,” says Megan. “All the guests got up and sang the slow version and it was just beautiful … then, when the fast part came on, all my kids came running to us and we all danced.”Spain-mediterranean-wedding-Megan-and-Evan-26-1

The day also had its share of unexpected hilarity, as Megan explains. “When we were doing the speeches, one of my kids pressed down on our top table, it all collapsed, and everything fell off! Also, when I did the bouquet toss outside, the wind kept pushing it back to me. It took eight tries to get the bouquet to the guests!”

Fortunately, the couple’s “don’t sweat the small stuff” approach sailed them through the day’s funny (and challenging) moments with laughter and grace. They even had a clever solution to the lack of fresh flowers, with Megan picking up €80 worth of beautiful faux blooms online. You’d never guess!

For their honeymoon, the newly minted Mr & Mrs and their kids stayed in a beautiful villa near the hotel for 3.5 weeks, with plans for a second honeymoon down the track. For now, they can reflect on a holiday dream that became a beautiful reality.
