Tropical Luxe Vows in Samui

This spectacular Samui ‘I do’ doubled as an unforgettable escape with family and friends

Before Emily and Daniel’s elegant nuptials on the Thai island of Samui, the groom pulled off his intimate proposal a little closer to home. It called for an early start (3am in fact!) so the pair could catch sunrise at Currumbin Beach on the Gold Coast. “Daniel was nervous so when we stopped for coffee, he barely drank his,” recalls Emily. “We sat in the early morning light, cuddling on a picnic blanket and listening to Spacey Jane. Daniel asked me to stand up and the rest was a blur! We cried, hugged, and I of course said Yes! It was perfect.”

The seaside vibe extended to the couple’s location search, with family connections helping seal the deal. “Daniel has family in Thailand, so having a destination wedding was perfect,” says Emily. “And Silavadee Koh Samui is such a gorgeous location!” Built into the cliffs above a private beach, this luxurious Thai hideaway offered everything they could wish for — including breathtaking views and venues plus exquisite pool villas and suites for their 40 guests.

While many brides struggle with planning from afar, it was the opposite for Emily. “I had zero concerns organising the wedding from Australia,” she says. “The team were incredibly communicative and had planned everything to a T! Even the small things I probably would have forgotten like signage and background music etc.”

When the big day dawned, a magical scene awaited the couple at the Silavadee Sun Deck. A lush floral arbor framed the dazzling vistas and guests gathered in anticipation, a chic all-black dress code allowing the bride to shine. These picture-perfect scenes tell a story of tropical sunshine and unbridled joy — with the first kiss as husband and wife being a particularly precious moment for the pair.

The newlyweds couldn’t wait to celebrate with loved ones, and it didn’t take long for the party to kick off in the main restaurant and its fabulous terrace. “The food was delicious, especially the pasta bar!” notes Emily. “The funniest memory is my dad, Scott, singing and dancing the night away — he could have out-partied all of us!

Though this elegant soirée was meticulously planned and impeccably styled, it was also wonderfully stress-free … as promised! “Our planner told us: Leave the stress to the team!” says Emily. “It was the most perfect day, and having the weight taken off your shoulders brought the fun back.”

Emily and Daniel then enjoyed two recovery days in Koh Samui, finding it hard to tear themselves away from a location that will forever hold a special place in their hearts. Then it was on to Phuket and Bangkok for their official Thai honeymoon.

They are quick to recommend the destination wedding experience to others weighing up whether to take the leap. “Just do it,” says Emily. “Not only do you get more from the financial side of things, but it truly adds to the experience and takes away the stress of having to individually plan things when there are incredible wedding packages available to you. The feeling of being across the world with your nearest and dearest family and friends truly was an unforgettable experience. I would do it again tomorrow!”
