Real Life Wedding: Danielle & James – Airlie Beach

Danielle Seymour married James Krista on 29 September 2012 on stunning Whitehaven Beach in the Whitsunday Islands. Their wedding party then joined them for a fabulous reception lunch in Déjà Vu Restaurant at Waters Edge Resort, Airlie Beach.

Why did you choose a destination wedding?

I live in the Whitsundays and when we got engaged we couldn’t imagine getting married anywhere else. We had so many spectacular backdrops to choose from, and it gave our families and friends the opportunity to have a holiday here as part of our wedding.410

Why did you select that venue?

Whitehaven Beach is a fairytale location so I know right from the start that I wanted our ceremony there. We chose Déjà Vu Restaurant for our reception because we had our first date there, and have enjoyed many long lunches there over the years. The relaxed atmosphere really suited us as a couple and was what we wanted for our wedding.6758

Did you have guests attend and, if so, what was their reaction to a destination wedding?

We only had our family on the beach with us for the ceremony which was very intimate and special. They were blown away by their scenic seaplane flight over Whitehaven Beach before landing on the water and then watching our ceremony on the beach. We then joined with our other guests for the reception and they loved the casual lunch atmosphere and stunning views over the Whitsunday islands.18

What is your favourite memory of the day?

I honestly couldn’t pick one memory, the whole day was even more amazing than I could ever have imagined it to be.

What was the best thing about having a destination wedding?

The best thing about having our wedding in the Whitsundays was that everyone felt relaxed and inspired by the beautiful surroundings, so everyone was beaming and happy – not just us!310

What theme or style did you base your wedding decorations on?

My family owns ‘Flowerlovers’ based at Rocklea Markets in Brisbane so it was all about the flowers. We had guests comment that they’d never been to a wedding where they can remember the amazing smell. Everything was kept simple and elegant to complement the stunning beach backdrop and the view from the restaurant.

How did your wedding coordinator help you?

While I did most of the coordination, I Do Events Whitsundays were invaluable in providing styling advice and coordination. They also helped with all the little things I didn’t realise I needed to do for the wedding, and were always happy to help with advice on anything, whether it was part of their services or not.213

Did you honeymoon in the same location?

We island hopped in Thailand before coming home to the Whitsundays and spending the last few days of our honeymoon on Hayman Island. We are pretty lucky to live in the ultimate honeymoon destination and it was a good to be home yet still on holidays!
