Real Life Wedding: Cathy & King – Bali

Cathy Fransisca married her love, King Chan, on 8 June 2014. They had their wedding at The Kayumanis in Nusa Dua, with a ceremony in the Chapel, followed by a reception at Piasan Restaurant. We love the intimate ambience of the ceremony and the gorgeous hues of forest green and gold used in the reception styling.

Why did you choose a destination wedding?

We wanted an exotic holiday destination for our guests who travelled from as far as North America, Australia, and other parts of Asia. I’m originally from Jakarta, so Bali was definitely an ideal location. Also, the idea of a destination wedding means it’s a limited number of people (just close friends and family), which is naturally more intimate.

My husband and I live abroad and apart from most of the guests, so it’s also a once-in-a-lifetime reunion opportunity that gives us a chance to bond — and that, so far has made the most memorable time of our lives.

Why did you select that venue?

The venue is very intimate, with a unique architectural structure that has Indonesian, Italian and Western influences, giving it a modern minimalist and rustic feel. Not to mention the greenery around the venue, which all worked perfectly together for my love of rustic and French provincial style.

How did your guests react to you choosing a destination wedding?

We had 88 attend, and most of our closest guests were so excited they booked their flights months ahead. Also, many of them hadn’t been to Bali before so I couldn’t wait for them to have an amazing trip.

What is your favourite memory of the day?

People commented on how beautifully executed the whole wedding was. We didn’t hire a planner, but had many talented friends who participated in wedding roles, such as a floral stylist, pastor, MC and baker. Hearing the compliments not only gave me pride in putting the team together, it also made me realise how much our friends love us!

What style did you base your wedding decorations or decor on?

Rustic and French provincial with a touch of glam.

How did your coordinator help you?

A&B Creative was involved in the wedding concept and presentation, as well as on-the-day coordination. They ensured everything was decorated as agreed, that all vendors and props hired for the day arrived on time, and that things ran to schedule.

What was the best thing about having a destination wedding?

I think a destination wedding has more meaningful perks than a typical wedding can offer. Being the centre of attention and feeling special, loved and cared for by everyone who was willing to make travel arrangements to visit a distant location just for us felt wonderful. In return, we got to host our guests and ensure everyone was accommodated and having a good time – hopefully our guests left with memories they’ll treasure forever.

Where did you honeymoon?

I always wanted to go to Europe (which is still on my list), but we had several mini honeymoons here and there around South-East Asia.
