Why did you choose a destination wedding?
We selected Dusit Thani Laguna Phuket, Thailand as we thought it was the best meeting place for both sides of the family. As I am Thai and most of my family are living in Northeast of Thailand, it was a great opportunity for Andrew’s family to explore my country before and after the wedding.
Why did you select the destination and venue you did?
We both love sun, sand, sea and the resort is located in the perfect location, merely a few steps away to the stunning beach, and the price was suitable.
Did you have guests attend, and if so, what was their reaction to you having a destination wedding?
We had 50 guests, they were very excited. For some guests it was their first time to Phuket, Thailand. We were glad that they enjoyed themselves and had a great memory with so many stories to tell when they got back to see their friends in Australia. It was a great opportunity for my family who live in the North of Thailand and have never been to Phuket before.
What is your favourite memory of the day?
The ceremony was our favourite. We began our wedding ceremony in the early morning, around nine. The weather was not too hot and the turquoise Andaman Sea was gorgeous. The kids were thrilled as we had a baby elephant at the ceremony.
What was the best thing about having a destination wedding?
It was a unique experience and a place where we can return to enjoy our honeymoon year after year. We are planning to visit Thailand and stay at the resort during the month of our wedding day.
What theme or style did you base your wedding decorations on?
We didn’t really have a specific theme. My favourite colour is pink so the resort team decorated the ceremony, reception and dinner based on that, however, it was coordinated with pink, white and gold. I selected our wedding gift which was a Royal Thai porcelain tea cup.
How did your wedding coordinator assist you?
Phanticha, the resort’s wedding planner, organised pretty much everything, we just told her what we wanted. She was very thorough throughout the day.
Did you honeymoon in the same location?
Yes, we did. We had a great rest after the big day. We enjoyed our honeymoon afterwards.
What’s your best piece of advice for a couple planning their own destination wedding?
Find a wedding venue with surroundings that appeal to you. Make sure that you have done research about that selected resort/hotel. Most of the resorts that do offer wedding services, have a very professional and experienced team, which will reduce a lot of stress and work for you.
