Why did you choose a destination wedding?

We absolutely loved the idea of having our close friends and family around us on a tropical island during the most important time of our lives to date. Totally relaxed and away from our busy lives for just a few days.

Why did you select the destination and venue you did?

We were inspired by the natural beauty of Silavadee Pool Spa Resort, the secret private beach and the incredible food.Nikki-and-Kevin-113

Did you have guests attend, and if so, what was their reaction to you having a destination wedding?

We had 93 guests in total. Most of our friends were pretty excited about the prospect of going on a holiday for our wedding.

What is your favourite memory of the day?

Walking down the ‘aisle’, which was a 50m long boardwalk to the beach. It was so magical to see the beautifully decorated canopy on the sand and our close friends and family waiting.Nikki-and-Kevin-191

What was the best thing about having a destination wedding?

The fact that the size of our wedding was reduced as not everyone could make the journey. It was big enough that there was a real crowd but intimate enough that everyone could get to know each other. Our close friends and family on each side were able to bond and connect. It’s such a special start to our marriage to know that our families really know each other and have a shared experience to reminisce about.Nikki-and-Kevin-761

What theme or style did you base your wedding decorations on?

I looked through wedding albums from the Silavadee Facebook page and picked out the aspects of previous weddings that I liked. I absolutely love fairy lights, and my favourite colour is purple so that helped theme the day.Nikki-and-Kevin-285

How did your wedding coordinator assist you?

Nokie was absolutely fantastic. She is a yes woman! She made everything a reality. Almost everything that we requested, she would make happen. From organising the photographer, videographer and DJ, to ordering the Tiffany chairs, to arranging the table decorations, to putting the bouquets and flowers for the canopy together, to packing our favour boxes and sticking labels on all our giveaway hats and fans.Nikki-and-Kevin-494Nikki-and-Kevin-1167

Did you honeymoon in the same location?

We invited some of our friends to join us in Koh Phangan for a few days after the wedding for a joint honeymoon. It was so fun to keep the party going with our friends after the wedding but then also great to have some ‘down-time’ before heading home.

What’s your best piece of advice for a couple planning their own destination wedding?

If you don’t have the time and desire to go to your destination of choice to search for a venue yourself, then definitely consider hiring a general weddings event planner to source and plan your wedding. Don’t underestimate the time that it takes to plan the destination wedding of your dreams!
