Why did you select the destination and venue that you did?
Our dream was to get married somewhere exotic. Somewhere our guests would have the holiday of a lifetime. Thailand is absolutely beautiful and oozes paradise and there are so many different, wonderful locations all contained within one country. Krabi is a stunning sight to behold. With the staggering limestone cliffs and powder beaches, I knew they would provide the perfect backdrop for our wedding. The hotel is just beautiful with all the suites and villas situated at differing levels on the limestone cliffs. The beach there is private and this added to the intimacy and gave a more personal touch on our wedding day.Did you have guests attend, and if so, what was their reaction to you having a destination wedding?
Only our immediate family attended as we wanted to have a very intimate wedding. Big extravagant weddings are not something that appeals to my partner and I. Extreme excitement at the prospect of going to Thailand was the main emotion felt by our siblings and their partners. In comparison, both sets of parents were not too keen mainly due to the long travel times however once we showed them what Thailand had to offer they very quickly changed their minds and began to count down the days until we all departed.
What is your favourite memory of the day?
All of it was amazing. However, after the ceremony we departed for a sunset cruise along the coastline, weaving through the towering limestone cliffs that emerged from the ocean. We enjoyed canapés and prosecco and it provided a time after the wedding ceremony to relax and just enjoy some quality family time. This is one of the many beautiful memories that I won’t forget.
What was the best thing about having a destination wedding?
Being able to wed in a stunning setting was one of the main draws as was having a guaranteed sunny climate awaiting. I feel to have a dream wedding in the UK, the cost can sometimes become extortionate. By having a destination wedding, the cost is usually reduced but that isn’t to say that you have to compromise. You can combine the romance of a dream wedding with the opportunity to visit somewhere exquisite, and have a once in a lifetime experience with your nearest and dearest. Your honeymoon can also be incorporated which is an added bonus. What theme or style did you base your wedding decorations on?
We combined the features of a traditional Thai wedding with that of a Western style wedding. As we were marrying in Thailand we felt compelled to immerse ourselves somewhat within their culture however some aspects of a Western wedding were important to us; such as walking down the aisle with my father and the vows. They were only too happy to oblige with this after they had the blessing from the Buddhist monks that this would not be a problem. We wanted our style of wedding decorations and theme to blend with the surrounding landscape and not to detract from it so we based the colour scheme around greens, whites and pale yellows. How did your wedding coordinator assist you?
The wedding co-ordinators were amazing. From the first contact, they were very attentive and allowed us to involved in the planning as much as we wished. We thought this would be difficult as we lived so far away and a big element of trust was involved, however they were very open to me forwarding them ideas and pictures and they always provided me with a response within 24 hours. Once we arrived at the hotel they scheduled a meeting where we could discuss in more detail all the features of our wedding. We considered different food menus, drinks, decorations, colour schemes etc, most things that you would plan if you were to have a wedding from your home country. However, they were so efficient that they managed to arrange all of it within two days and the wedding and reception took place without incident.Did you honeymoon in the same location?
Prior to arriving, we arranged to depart the day after our wedding to embark on a mini moon on a nearby island, Koh Yao Yai. That was spectacular. We were able to spend some quality time together away from our family for a short time and unwind. We are due to depart for our actual honeymoon within the coming months.
