Real Life Wedding: Constance & Alex – Malaysia

Constance and Alex pledged their eternal love for each other on 27 March 2015 at Shangri-La's Rasa Ria Resort & Spa.

The utterly romantic set-up of this wedding has us transfixed. The rose-coloured hues given off by the lighting, blush florals and billowing white drapery work perfectly without overstating this stunning destination wedding in Malaysia, overlooking the ocean.

Why did you choose a destination wedding?

We wanted to do something a little different and had decided that getting married back home wasn’t something we were too interested in. A destination wedding seemed like a great option.

Why did you select the destination?

I came across the wedding pavilion in a Google search and couldn’t look past it. Everything about the location looked idyllic and I knew it would make for a beautiful wedding. I visited the resort about a year before the wedding and fell in love with the place. In addition, the resort was flexible and accommodating and didn’t lock us into a rigid package. We had lots of freedom to plan the day, as we wanted it.

How did your guests react to you having a destination wedding?

We had 44 guests and they were mostly positive about our decision to get married in Borneo. Many of them were excited by the location and thought it was a good excuse for a holiday.

What is your favourite memory of the day?

Walking down the aisle with my dad to meet Alex. It was such a special moment.

How did your wedding coordinator help you?

I knew what I wanted but Alexandra was in charge of bringing it all together. Everything looked as I imagined it would. It was a really beautiful day.

What was the best thing about having a destination wedding?

Most guests stayed at the resort where we planned to marry, so it was great to spend extra time with them before the wedding. Everyone was relaxed and in holiday mode, making the lead up to our big day really fun and memorable.

Where did you honeymoon?

We stayed in Borneo for a few days after the wedding, then spent some time in Bhutan and Thailand.

What’s your best advice for a couple planning a destination wedding?

Know what you want and back that up with lots of examples and pictures – it makes communicating over email a lot easier.
