Why did you choose a destination wedding?
We originally wanted to elope, but then realised that we really wanted to be able to invite our family and friends to join in the celebrations. The idea of being in another country, travelling and celebrating with our closest family and friends was a really exciting idea.
Why did you select the destination and venue you did?
Thailand seemed the perfect location – a place that our guests would love to holiday to and it isn’t too expensive for those who would really want to come. Plus the food is amazing! We really wanted somewhere with a private beach and came across Tongsai Bay as a recommendation from a friend. It had some of the best reviews online and looked absolutely stunning from the photos, so we enquired about their wedding packages.
Did you have guests attend, and if so, what was their reaction to you having a destination wedding?
We had 44 guests travel to Koh Samui for our wedding, which is more than we thought we would get. Everyone that we mentioned the idea of a destination wedding to was particularly excited for it, seems that everyone was keen for a holiday themselves!
What is your favourite memory of the day?
How can you pick just one? The breathtaking beach backdrop! It was such a beautiful day with clear blue skies. The food! We had canapés on the beach, followed by Thai and BBQ seafood buffet dinner, and people could select what they liked from the different food stations set up. There was a chef on the beach just to BBQ fresh lobster, prawns and crabs! Everyone raved about the Pad Thai chef too.
What was the best thing about having a destination wedding?
Everyone is in holiday mode! They are keen to explore, eat and party as much as you are. Some come for just for the few days, some for a week or more, but everyone wants to make the most of their time while they are there. The days leading up to the wedding are so exciting as you get new friends to look forward to arriving each day!
What theme or style did you base your wedding decorations on?
Tongsai Bay doesn’t need any decorations, it’s an absolutely stunning resort! The set-up is so simple with the most beautiful flowers at the ceremony, and they put white lanterns and fairy lights in the reception.
How did your wedding coordinator assist you?
The wedding coordinator at Tongsai Bay, Aom, is absolutely wonderful. She was available on email all the time, was really accommodating to all of our requests, and made organising a wedding overseas a breeze! All we had to do was select the flower arrangements, menu and music. It was the most stress-free wedding!
Did you honeymoon in the same location?
Yes, we stayed in Koh Samui for our honeymoon. It was nice after everyone had left to do some tours to the islands nearby, hire scooters to explore the different beaches and spend some time just the two of us.
